Special thanks to everyone who turned out and supported the American Birkebeiner, February 23-25, in Hayward, Wis.!

The 2012 Birkie Skiers for Cures program again supported the National MS Society, with money raised from Skiers for Cures pin sales and other fundraising efforts totaling more than $65,000.

In total, the generous support of those involved with the Birkie over the past four years has meant $300,000 raised for MS research.

Birkie skiers had the opportunity to win fabulous prizes simply for purchasing and wearing a Ski for the Cure pin on their race bibs as they crossed the Finish Line. Click here for the complete list of prizes and the companies that donated them.

Other highlights included:

Skiing with Vegard Ulvang
The first 30 people who raised $1,000 or more for Birkie Skiers for Cures were invited to a private skiing session and luncheon with six-time Olympic medalist Vegard Ulvang and his family.

Trip to Norway
Jeffrey Dahl won two race tickets, three-nights lodging and a $1,500 travel voucher to the 2013 Birkebeinerrennet in Norway. Every $250 in donations contributed to Skiers for Cures equaled an entry into the drawing to win. Congratulations, Jeffrey, and thank you for the donations!

A special thank you to Kay Lum, who designed each Skiers for Cures pin that’s been used to support MS research. Kay is a graphic artist and a long-time Birkie and Bike MS participant.

The Skiers for Cures support of MS research would not have been possible without the generosity and exceptional efforts of the American Birkebeiner organization, along with that of MS researcher, ski enthusiast and Bike MS team captain Dr. Ian Duncan, who was instrumental in forging the four-year partnership.

Bike riding is a great cross-training option for cross-country skiers who want to continue to improve their skill. Did you know that the National MS Society has one of the premier biking events in the nation? Click here to learn more about Bike MS:Best Dam Bike Ride.

Donations are always welcome! Just because the Birkie is over, doesn’t mean our research stops. Your contribution today will help research move us even closer to a world free of MS.
